interesthings #13 - We need to talk.

In this interesthings: The story since #12, a few great tips and the Apple Car?

I am back.

The draft of interesthings #13 had been abandoned since April. Reading what I wrote in that draft gave a good insight in my state at the time, will keep that for myself.

If that guy only knew the rollercoaster he would be on.

What rollercoaster am I talking about? Let me get you up to speed.

Thoughts - The story since #12

So the last newsletter was in April. I was still a projectmanager and lead at my former employer and back from a week in the south of France (which is beautiful).

At that time two things happened.

Firstly, my energy level was below zero. This resulted in me getting stressed and not doing the job I should have been doing.

Secondly, I got minor panic attacks. Opening a fairly normal mail from a colleague in the afternoon and breaking out into tears is a sign that things need to change.

The months that followed were intense. I quit my job at the end of my contract in September. Let me tell you, that was a long time.

Fast forward to now.

My contract ended a month ago. And in the months leading to this I had time to think about my next stept. Being a full-time projectmanager was not my thing. So what now? I found it. And let me tell you, it is fun.

I started for myself. Became the founder of betterview.

A former colleague once told me: ‘If you put just as much effort in your work as in your newsletter, you would be great’. That sums it up. This newsletter is my own thing. My own expression of freedom and creativity. Working for someone else meant giving in my freedom and creativity.

This freedom and creativity is what drives me.

What I do? Creating online experiences that connect people and make the internet a better place. How I do it? By creating webdesign, branding and visual content.

So now the big question, why start up this newsletter? To share things and inspiring you to become a better version of yourself. This newsletter is a more in-depth view of the things that I share on LinkedIn and Twitter.

If you read this and think: ‘I forget about this guy’ or ‘Do I even know him’. To which I say: Please click that unsubscribe link down below. I do not blame you.

But if you do want to keep subscribed: It will be a fun ride.

P.s. the newsletter will become a monthly instance (for now).

Things

  • Ever heard of tools as Framer and Webflow? They are taking over the development and design world by storm. The website of betterview was designed in Figma and just copy pasted in Framer. Mesmerising.

  • A bad habit of mine is forgetting meetings and remembering (or being remembered) a few minutes later. Luckily, I found this tool called In your face which just turns your screen intro one big pop-up. Now you never forget meetings. Buy it here or get it using Setapp.

  • Really liking the Salomon XT-6 shoes. They fit like a glove and are really sturdy.

  • Go watch Apple Events. The way they are made is so satisying. Did you know they made the last one with the iPhone 15 Pro Max? Check their ‘behind the scenes’ here.

  • Another thing about the last event, they might have just shown the Apple Car in the video. Look at that car on the bottom right. Apple would never show a ‘normal car’ in a  video.

  • Been using Twitter (or X) for a week now. This platform is so inspiring and feel more engaging as LinkedIn (and less distracting than Instagram). Hit me up @betterview_mark

Well, that is all. I am back. I have so much more energy this time around. Let me know what you like, and let’s connect. Connecting is fun.
